History of Slidell #4
Slidell Assembly was instituted in 1923 and went dark in 1986. We
reopened on November 20, 1999, with Lakeshore #59, Order of Eastern Star
sponsoring us. Our meetings are held at the Slidell Lodge on the second
and fourth Sunday’s at 2:00 p.m.
Slidell Assembly was chosen as #1 Assembly at Grand Assembly 2001 and again in
2004, and has won many assembly awards.
Our Grand Officers this year are
Melissa Reed, Grand Faith; Angela Cocran, Grand Recorder; Meagan
Impastato, Grand Historian and Grand Rep. to Georgia and North Carolina;
Stephanie Carver, Grand Religion and Grand Cross Team; Katie Scholl,
Grand Confidential Observer and Jr. State Executive Committee. Pariche
Fortenberry is Grand Representative to Alabama and Ohio and Marianna Cabrera is
Grand Representative to Colorado, Wyoming/Idaho. Other members are Anastasia
Walker, Daisy Windham, Michaela Bryars, Rebecca Brewer, Erica Herbin and Holley
Warren.
Service to our community plays a very large role in Slidell Rainbow. We worked
at the Community Christian Concerns sorting and shelving food after the big
food drive and then after Hurricane Alison came through and caused leaks in
their roof. We participated in each year's Grand Charity project. We
donated children’s books and spent a morning at the Rainbow Day Care Center
where the girls read to and played with the children. We also did a
Thanksgiving Art project with them and shared a snack with the children.
We will sell shopping bags in the Mall to benefit the Toys for Tots program.
In 2001, we were honored by the Slidell City Council for outstanding service to
our community and each girl as well as Mr. Joe, was given an engraved
certificate and key to the City.
Our Fundraisers have included candy sales, Christmas paper sales, car washes
and during Mardi Gras, we set up a drink, candy stand in front of the Lodge
before the parades.
Of course, all work and no play would make a dull time so during each term
there have been fun activities like going to Jazzland theme park, swim parties,
Halloween Spook Trail, and ice skating in City Park. Several of our girls have
been able to travel to the Grand Jurisdictions of Virginia, Mississippi and
Georgia and we have also visited many of our sister assemblies here in
Louisiana and in Mississippi.
